James Knight has been an E-RYT, CHSE (Certified Hanna Somatic Educator), and Integrative Therapist for 30+ years. He was an early pioneer to bridge hatha yoga with Somatics. His passion is to inspire and encourage others to live a fulfilling life of physical, emotional and spiritual freedom.

From his combined experience as a lifelong yogi, intuitive bodyworker, psychotherapist, and movement educator, James founded a method of integrating what he discovered to be the most progressive, life-enhancing techniques into an embodied practice of mindful movement.

Gentle Somatic Yoga® (GSY) was born out of years of exploring means of connecting with the deepest aspects of himself.

James Knight has been teaching in Canada since 2014, but has never been to the province of Alberta.

Upon meeting Jeff Mah, and having him join our online training courses, we are honored to be invited into the community of The Yoga Lounge and sharing Gentle Somatic Yoga® (GSY).

This GSY workshop event series has been in the planning phases for over 2 years (since the beginning of the pandemic). James is very excited to finally have the chance to be in-person sharing his deepest passion: movement education, meditation, and learning/growing in global community.

  • Introducing 6+ new Somatic Movement Flows® that will help unwind from stress holding habits from head-to-toe. James introduces some of the basic neuroscience and philosophy behind Gentle Somatic Yoga (GSY).

Sunday, June 5, 2022 11:00am - 6:00pm MST ~ Theme: Deep Dive Workshop

  • Introducing 12+ new Somatic Movement Flows® to inspire a deeper understanding of how and why this method is different than other popular styles of yoga. Instead of focusing on stretching muscles we use a technique called pandiculation. Pandiculation helps repattern the brain-to-muscle connection returning muscles to their optimal length in a resting position. The result of this repatterning can bring significant flexibility, strength, and postural alignment.
  • Participants will have an embodied experience that will not only help them, but can also be shared with their family, friends, clients and students. A PowerPoint presentations of the history, philosophy, methodology and neuroscience behind GSY will be offered, as well as "Learning Laboratories" for review, Q&A and integration following each session.
  • This interactive and experiential workshop is the perfect introduction to GSY for yoga teachers/therapists, bodyworkers, movement educators, as well as the lay person. You will learn practical and effective skills that can immediately be incorporated into your classes and/or 1-on-1 sessions with clients.
